Clock manufacturing has changed out of all recognition in the last 50 years. The introduction of quartz technology in the early 1970's means that we have come to expect exact timekeeping. Although It sounds ridiculous today, if a clock kept time to within a few minutes a week this was considered accurate before the advent of quartz. Until the 1970's, any clock called a "Chronometer", had to keep time at worst, 45 seconds a week, a lot by today's standards.

Today there are Radio Controlled Clocks (often wrongly, called Atomic clocks) they offer even better timekeeping,  the makers claim accuracy between 5 seconds in 10,000 years up to 10 seconds every 1,000,000 years,  the truth is they will keep 100% accurate time in our lifetime.

A Radio Controlled Clock is a receiver and gets an MSF (Radio Controlled) signal which is broadcast from the Anthorn Radio Station in Cumbria by a firm called VT Communications, they are under contract to the National Physical Laboratory. The signal is broadcast right across the United Kingdom and carries a time signal as well as the year, month, day of the month, day of the week, hour, minute and second. The signal automatically updates for Greenwich Mean Time or British Summer Time, which means that the hour change will automatically update on the clock. This happens twice a year in March and October so there is no forgetting to set your clock when the hour changes.

Although Radio Controlled Clocks have been with us for  years now, the advances in manufacturing means that a Radio Controlled Clock movement can be used in almost any type of clock or with new miniaturisation, even in to a watch, a few years ago they where large bulky movements and only seen in larger clocks. They now often come with a weather display or temperature and are supplied by a variety of different manufacturers in lots of different styles including analogue or digital display.

Because of todays modern manufacturing techniques and mass production the price of a Radio Controlled Clock has dropped significantly, starting from around about £10.00 so why not get 100% accurate timekeeping and check us out at www.serendipity-gifts.co.uk , we offer a wide range which is constantly updating and fast postage.

Never have to set your clock again!

We've all done it. Whether it's 'spring forward' or 'fall back', it is so easy to forget to reset your clock and find yourself embarrassingly out of sync with the rest of the world.

Perhaps you woke up in the morning and went through your morning routine of getting ready for school, only to show up to an empty parking lot and locked school doors and realizing that the building hasn't opened yet because classes don't start for an hour! Or, even worse, you have been an hour late for work and walk in nonchalantly, and it is only when you see the unhappy look on the face of your boss when you realize the mistake you have made! Thankfully, there is no excuse anymore for such a time-blunder, thanks to radio controlled clocks.

When the first radio controlled clocks came out in the 1980s they were very large and expensive. However now compact radio controlled clocks are available in a number of designs suitable for home use and are quite affordable. Radio controlled clocks are not very much more expensive than regular clocks, and you can find some at a comparable price. They are quite an amazing and very accurate piece of time keeping technology.

Radio controlled clocks are synchronized by a time code bit stream from a time standard such as an atomic clock. The clock receives regular time and date updates through the air, via a constantly broadcast long wave radio signal. This means that your clock will always state the correct time and you will never have to remember to alter it again, or wonder if it is accurate. Your radio clock will correct itself every time the time is adjusted for daylight savings time. Radio clocks that are synchronized with terrestrial time signals are usually accurate to around 1 millisecond!

Many different types of clocks can be radio controlled, such as alarm clocks, wall clocks, mantel clocks, battery operated clocks and even wristwatches. If all clocks in your house are radio controlled, you will no longer have the annoying discrepancies between them, such as when the clock in the kitchen is five minutes faster than the one in your bedroom! There is never any guessing or resetting with a radio controlled clock, you can always be sure that you have the accurate time.

So if you struggle with remembering to reset your clocks in the spring and autumn, or you simply want to be assured that you have the accurate time, you might consider switching your household over to radio controlled clocks. They don't look any different from other types of clocks, and there are many styles to choose from, so you will be able to find something that fits with the decor of your home.
